This is a pre-recorded webinar.   Estimated time to view this webinar is 5 hrs.  It is available from 1 May to 31 July 2024.

Fee = £295.00 plus VAT or 3 credits

This module will introduce some practical aspects of noise reporting and evaluation and also serve as a quick review of the key aspects of the previous 4 modules, drawing together the materials provided in other modules to evaluate noise reports and understand how conditions and notices should be drafted.  The module will be based on review of a number of case study examples.  The examples will be provided and delegates will have the opportunity to work through the examples with the guidance of trainers.  The focus of the day will be to arrive at reasoned, evidenced, technically and legally sustainable conclusion.

Advanced Noise 4: Mitigation and Option Appraisal - 20 May 2024 to 30 August 2024

This is a pre-recorded webinar.  It is available for 1 month from 20 May 2024 to 21 June 2024.

Fee = £295.00 plus VAT or 3 credits

This webinar will review noise mitigation methodology.   The session will provide a review of how a noise mitigation target can be calculated and then take the delegates through the options for noise mitigation.  The seminar will focus on the mitigation requirements for the town and county planning process, and will review the  challenges faced by developers in meeting appropriate noise targets.

The seminar will review in detail the techniques and technologies used for noise control, including an updates on new advances in some of these techniques.  The seminar will provide details  the common mitigation technique based on:

  • Enclosures,  types, uses and constraints on use
  • Noise barriers (including an update on leading edge technologies)
  • Glazing systems, including the issues around ventilation and Approved Documents F and O

It will also include other variants of the above, and look at some emerging new technologies used in specific case studies.

This is a pre-recorded webinar.  Estimated time to view this webinar is 5 hrs. Available from 1 September to 30 November 2024.

Fee = £295.00 plus VAT or 3 credits

An advanced session designed to look at the guidance and policy surrounding noise and how it impacts on sustainability.

The course will review the principle guidance on noise impact assessment and sustainability, and place this is the context of securing planning policy, and implementation, it will provide a review of the guidance for noise and ventilation requirements as well as some case study examples of good environmental design.  This session will include a review of ‘green technologies’ ground and air source heat, designing for efficiency and provide insight into the knotty problem of ventilation in homes.

This advanced session will focus on case studies that use a variety of acoustic standards to demonstrate environmental impact.  The session will provide a review of how BS4142, and WHO criteria are used in practice to demonstrate environmental impact.  The session will provide a number of case studies for (hopefully) in person review and critical analysis.

The session will provide opportunity to revisit the concept of uncertainty in noise measurement and reporting and how that might affect decision making.

Advanced Noise 3: BS4142 - 1 November to 31 January 2025

This is a pre-recorded webinar.  Estimated time to view this webinar is 5 hrs. It is available from 1 November to 31 January 2025.

Fee = £295.00 plus VAT or 3 credits

BS4142 is produced the most commonly applied (and abused) noise impact standard used in the UK.  This 1 day seminar will provide a review of the BS4142 standard, taking the delegates through the intended uses, through to the method required by BS4142 to perform an assessment, and then reviewing the results of the assessment including the knotty problem of context.

This seminar will provide delegates with a detailed understanding of what is required to conduct a BS44142 assessment, including measurement strategies (locations, when to measure or model, and how to calculate levels as required by the standard), the use and application acoustic feature corrections, and interpretation of the outcome.

The seminar will be illustrated with examples to ensure that a practical approach is maintained.

The seminar will finish with a review of the potential issues associated with use of the standard, how it might be misapplied and how the reporting requirement inherent within the standard can help to minimise misuse.

The session will be essential for delegates who are new to dealing with noise and BS4142 assessments, but also useful to experienced delegates who will benefit from the detailed discussions around acoustic feature correction, uncertainty assessment, and application of the standard.
