This tool box talk is designed to provide the operational
environmental protection officer and environmental protection manager with a better understanding of how the LAPPC / LA-IPPC system at a Local Authority is managed. It covers basic management requirements, such as managing operator and public expectations, performance management techniques including performance
indicators, benchmarking and target setting for LAPPC / LA-IPPC and also considers the use of audits and reviews.
Budgets for providing environmental protection services and
income sources are considered as well as how best to utilise partners &
consultants to demonstrate best value budgetary use. Good practice guides are
referenced for further reading and the use of customer satisfaction surveys /
feedback to assess and improve service provision.
Finally, on a more practical management note, the UK
Pollutant Release and Transfer Register & the annual Defra local pollution
control statistical survey are discussed in detail.
