Land contamination is a material consideration under planning. Reviewing third party land contamination reports by local authorities is essential for ensuring technical robustness, legislative compliance and quality assurance.
This course is intended to give delegates a framework for reviewing third party reports, submitted in support of planning applications and conditions. It will highlight key points to look for in any review, and suggest sources of information that can be used to update and maintain technical competence in a rapidly changing and technically challenging specialist area. There will be several practical sessions involving the review of hypothetical reports throughout the day to practice and embed the skills learned.
By the end of the course delegates should:
- Be better able to evaluate the technical robustness of the third party reports, including Preliminary Risk Assessment, Site Investigation, Risk Assessment and Remediation Reports; and
- Be able to critically evaluate whether the necessary aspects of the site investigation, risk assessment, and risk management processes are reported to an acceptable and robust standard.
The course is best taken as the fifth and final module of the Essentials of Contaminated Land Management series - a structured programme of training leading to the Certificate in Contaminated Land accredited by the Chartered Institute
of Environmental Health (CIEH). However, the course can be taken as a stand alone module by delegates with a pre-existing technical knowledge of land contamination management, including guidance such as CLR11, BS10175, current
statistics guidance, the CLEA guidance (SR2 and SR3) and Defra’s SP1010 project (C4SL).
The course will be presented by experienced trainers in short sections interspersed with interactive content, activities and practical exercises.
