This is a practical toolbox talk for officers actively involved in the inspection of permitted activities. Firstly, it confirms the legal requirement for all Local Authorities which regulate permitted activities to carry out periodic inspections of those permitted activities. It goes on to determine best practice for preparing to undertake a site inspection, provides a template inspection check sheet and then examines the necessary measures required to carry out a successful site inspection.

An alternative to an on-site inspection is discussed and the need to provide verbal feedback and a written report of inspection is confirmed. Finally, the necessary post-inspection actions to be undertaken by a local authority environmental permitting officer are listed and discussed.
